Our Program

CUE Cantonese Immersion recognizes the importance of play to early childhood learning. In our program, play and thoughtfully designed activities form the foundation of our educational approach. We believe that when children are immersed in playful experiences, learning becomes a natural and enjoyable process.

As Cantonese is primarily a spoken language, our theme-based curriculum is designed to focus on developing conversational Cantonese speaking and listening skills. Through interactive group discussions, songs, play, and teacher-guided activities, students are encouraged to use and practice Cantonese in fun and meaningful ways.

Music & Songs 唱歌

The repetitive rhythm and patterns of songs make it easy for students to memorize words and expressions. We incorporate Cantonese versions of familiar songs that children already know, helping them expand their vocabulary and improve their speech in a fun and engaging way.

Writing 寫字

Students will learn to write traditional Chinese characters by tracing the strokes in the correct order, helping them develop proper writing techniques and an understanding of character formation.

Celebrate Traditions 傳統節日慶祝

Students will explore and celebrate traditional Chinese holidays, including Chinese New Year, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, through engaging activities such as storytelling, arts and crafts, and music.

Circle Time 講故事

Each class begins with circle time to introduce the lesson topic. The session includes a mix of storytime, games, music, group discussions, and writing activities, all designed to engage and immerse students in the learning process.

Arts & Crafts 手工

As students engage in crafting, we will discuss the artwork to help them learn vocabulary related to colors, shapes, materials, and textures. By describing their creations, students will take pride in their work, which promotes speech and language development.

Group Games 遊戲

Learning becomes exciting through interactive games that inspire students to engage in conversation and problem-solving. As they play, students naturally practice and master a range of conversational phrases and expressions, making the learning experience both enjoyable and educational.

About the Director

Kapo Szeto is an Early Childhood Educator and the founder of CUE Cantonese Immersion, a Cantonese learning program designed for children ages three to nine years. The program’s goal is to make learning Cantonese enjoyable by incorporating engaging and interactive activities that captivate young minds.

Kapo immigrated to Vancouver, BC from Hong Kong at a young age, and while learning English as her second language, she continued to use Cantonese to communicate with her family. Growing up in a multicultural society, Kapo quickly realized the importance of being bilingual and how it enriched her life. She believes that acquiring a second language is an invaluable skill and a gift we can pass on to future generations, especially as they navigate a linguistically and culturally diverse world.

Recognizing a growing demand among parents for non-traditional, age-appropriate Cantonese learning programs, Kapo decided to follow her passion for working with children by creating an early-years Cantonese Immersion program in Vancouver. She envisioned a program that would teach children Cantonese in a play-based, fun, and positive environment—something parents were eagerly seeking.

Kapo’s vision for CUE Cantonese Immersion is to offer an enriching learning environment where children can participate in meaningful activities and enjoy the process of learning. She believes that sparking children’s curiosity at an early age lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

Since its establishment in 2009, CUE Cantonese Immersion has been well-received by the community, and Kapo is proud of the program’s ongoing success and the bright future ahead!

We are a Cantonese language learning program for children ages 3 to 9 years old located in Vancouver BC.
